ahaṁ vaiśvānaro bhūtvā prāṇināṁ deham āśritaḥ prāṇāpāna-samāyuktaḥ pacāmy annaṁ catur-vidham
aham—I; vaiśvānaraḥ—the fire of digestion; bhūtvā—becoming; prāṇinām—of all living beings; deham—body; āśritaḥ—situated in; prāṇa-apāna—the outgoing and incoming breath; samāyuktaḥ—keeping in balance; pacāmi—I digest; annam—food; catuḥ-vidham—four kinds.
“Becoming the fire of digestion (Vaishvanara) I reside in the bodies of living beings. United with the vital airs (prana and apana), I digest the four kinds of food.”
The Lord declares that it is He who acts as the digestive fire within every body. The biological process of digestion is thus a divine activity. This reinforces the teaching that no action occurs independently of the Supreme—even the most 'mechanical' bodily functions are sustained by divine energy. Offering food to Krishna before eating (as in prasadam) is thus a recognition of this truth.
Bring mindful awareness to eating and breathing—the two acts by which the divine fire within you sustains life. Eating quickly, unconsciously, or in a stressed state literally impairs the 'divine fire' (digestive capacity). Eating slowly, with gratitude and presence, aligns the body with its divine function and improves both digestion and spiritual receptivity.
