तेषामहं समुद्धर्ता मृत्युसंसारसागरात् | भवामि नचिरात्पार्थ मय्यावेशितचेतसाम् || ७ ||
teṣām ahaṁ samuddhartā mṛtyu-saṁsāra-sāgarāt bhavāmi na cirāt pārtha mayy āveśita-cetasām
teṣām—of them; aham—I; samuddhartā—the deliverer; mṛtyu—from death; saṁsāra—the ocean of birth and death; sāgarāt—from the ocean; bhavāmi—I become; na cirāt—without delay; pārtha—O son of Pritha; mayi—in Me; āveśita—fixed; cetasām—whose minds.
“For those whose minds are fixed on Me, O Partha, I become their swift deliverer from the ocean of birth and death.”
This is a magnificent promise. The Lord Himself becomes the boat that carries the devotee across the boundless ocean of samsara. The phrase 'na chirat' — without delay, soon — is striking. When the mind is truly fixed in the Divine, liberation is not a distant future event but an imminent reality. The ocean of samsara is kept alive by the belief in separation from the Lord; once that belief dissolves through devotion, the ocean itself disappears.
When life feels like an ocean of confusion and suffering, the practice of turning the mind repeatedly toward the Divine is not an escape but the most direct navigation. Each return of the mind to its source is a step across the ocean. The promise here is real: sincere, sustained devotion shortens the journey immeasurably.
