ममैवांशो जीवलोके जीवभूतः सनातनः | मनःषष्ठानीन्द्रियाणि प्रकृतिस्थानि कर्षति || ७ ||
mamaivāṁśo jīva-loke jīva-bhūtaḥ sanātanaḥ manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati
mama—My; eva—certainly; aṁśaḥ—fragmental particle; jīva-loke—in the world of conditional life; jīva-bhūtaḥ—the conditioned living entity; sanātanaḥ—eternal; manaḥ—with the mind; ṣaṣṭhāni—the six; indriyāṇi—senses; prakṛti-sthāni—situated in material nature; karṣati—is struggling hard.
“The eternal individual soul (jivatman) in this world of living beings is a fragment of Me alone. It draws to itself the six senses—including the mind—which are situated in material nature.”
This verse establishes the eternal relationship between the individual soul and the Supreme Soul. Each living being is a fragment (aṁśa) of Krishna—not identical but inseparably related. The soul has been drawing the senses and mind along since time immemorial, becoming entangled in matter. This is why the Gita's path is not denial but purification—realigning the jivatman toward its source.
You are not merely a body or a personality—you are an eternal fragment of the Divine. This is not a philosophical conceit; it is the most practical truth you can know. When you act from this understanding, the motivation changes from fear and self-protection to love and self-expression. Every moment of genuine kindness, creativity, or courage is this divine fragment shining through.
