पवनः पवतामस्मि रामः शस्त्रभृतामहम् | झषाणां मकरश्चास्मि स्रोतसामस्मि जाह्नवी || ३१ ||
pavanaḥ pavatām asmi rāmaḥ śastra-bhṛtām aham jhaṣāṇāṁ makaraś cāsmi srotasām asmi jāhnavī
pavanaḥ—the wind; pavatām—of all that purifies; asmi—I am; rāmaḥ—Rama; śastra-bhṛtām—of those who bear weapons; aham—I am; jhaṣāṇām—of fish; makaraḥ—the shark; ca—also; asmi—I am; srotasām—of rivers; asmi—I am; jāhnavī—the Ganges.
“Of purifiers I am the wind; of warriors I am Rama; of fish I am the shark; of rivers I am the Ganges.”
Wind (pavaḥ) purifies everything it touches, dispersing stagnation and renewing the atmosphere. Rama among warriors represents the perfect integration of strength and dharma — power exercised in the service of righteousness. The Ganga, supreme among rivers, carries the quality of perpetual purification. Each example represents excellence in service rather than excellence for personal gain.
True excellence is not self-serving but purifying and elevating for all it touches. Aspire to be like the wind, like the river — someone whose presence naturally uplifts, clears, and refreshes those around them. Excellence in service is the highest form of vibhūti that a human life can embody.
