Sanskrit
Transliteration
dadhiśaṅkha tuṣārābhaṁ kṣīrodārṇava sambhavam namāmi śaśinaṁ somaṁ śambhor mukuṭa bhūṣaṇam
Word Meanings
dadhi—curd; śaṅkha—conch; tuṣāra—snow; ābham—shining like; kṣīroda-arṇava—ocean of milk; sambhavam—arisen from; namāmi—I bow; śaśinam—to the moon-marked one; somam—to Soma; śambhoḥ—of Shiva; mukuṭa-bhūṣaṇam—the ornament of the crown.
Translation
I bow to Soma, shining like curd, conch, and snow, arisen from the ocean of milk, and adorning Shiva's crown as the moon.
Commentary
Chandra is associated here with cooling, nourishment, and reflective mind. The image of the moon on Shiva's crown suggests emotion held within awareness rather than emotion ruling awareness.
