What is Bandha?

If Nadis are the pipes of the energy system, Bandhas are the valves. By engaging specific muscular contractions at the pelvic floor (Mula), the abdomen (Uddiyana), or the throat (Jalandhara), the practitioner creates internal dams. These locks prevent vital energy from leaking outward into the senses and force it upward into the central channel (Sushumna). Without Bandhas, advanced breathing techniques (Pranayama) are leaky and ineffective. They generate the necessary internal pressure for energetic breakthrough.
Core technology in Hatha and Kundalini Yoga. While Asana purifies the body, Bandhas actually capture the generated power of the practice, preventing the practitioner from simply wearing themselves out.
