Multi-Tradition Commentary

Bhaktivedanta Swami (Gaudiya Vaishnavism)

This is one of the most fundamental declarations in the Gita. When the wise (budhāḥ) truly realize that Krishna is the source of everything — including their own intelligence, devotion, and capacity to understand — they are moved to bhajana not as an obligation but as a natural overflow of that recognition. Knowing the source, they cannot help but love.

Practical Application (Modern Life)

When you trace any good thing in your life — your intelligence, your relationships, your health — back to its ultimate source, gratitude arises naturally. Practice tracing at least one blessing each day back to its origin beyond your own effort. This simple exercise gradually dissolves the ego's claim of being the sole author of your life.
