Dhyana is usually translated as meditation, but classical usage is more precise. It is not the first moment of trying to concentrate. It is what happens when attention becomes more continuous, less jerky, and less entangled in side-thoughts. In this sense, Dhyana is not merely relaxation. It is disciplined interior steadiness that allows deeper perception and eventually opens toward absorption and insight.
Dhyana is central to the Yoga tradition and also essential across Vedantic, Buddhist, and tantric contemplative systems. It marks the maturation of inward practice from effortful focus to lived meditative continuity.
