अधिभूतं क्षरो भावः पुरुषश्चाधिदैवतम् | अधियज्ञोऽहमेवात्र देहे देहभृतां वर || ४ ||
adhibhūtaṁ kṣaro bhāvaḥ puruṣaś cādhidaivatam adhiyajño 'ham evātra dehe deha-bhṛtāṁ vara
adhibhūtam—the realm of matter; kṣaraḥ—perishable; bhāvaḥ—nature; puruṣaḥ—the cosmic person/Hiranyagarbha; ca—and; adhidaivatam—the realm of the divine; adhiyajñaḥ—the Lord of sacrifice; aham—I; eva—certainly; atra—here; dehe—in the body; deha-bhṛtām—of the embodied; vara—O best.
“O best of the embodied, the perishable physical nature is Adhibhuta; the cosmic Purusha (Hiranyagarbha) is Adhidaiva; and I Myself, dwelling in the body, am Adhiyajna (the Lord of sacrifice).”
The Lord systematically answers all six questions. The Adhiyajña—the divine presence within the body—is none other than Īśvara himself as the antaryāmin, the inner controller. All acts of worship, sacrifice, and selfless action are received by this inner presence. This understanding transforms every action into yajña.
If the Lord of sacrifice (Adhiyajña) is present within this very body, then the inner sanctum is closer than any temple. Cultivate the habit of turning inward before any significant action, acknowledging the indwelling witness, and offering the action to that presence.
