बहूनां जन्मनामन्ते ज्ञानवान्मां प्रपद्यते | वासुदेवः सर्वमिति स महात्मा सुदुर्लभः || १९ ||
bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti sa mahātmā su-durlabhaḥ
bahūnām—of many; janmanām—births; ante—at the end; jñānavān—one possessed of knowledge; mām—unto Me; prapadyate—surrenders; vāsudevaḥ—Lord Vasudeva (Krishna); sarvam—everything; iti—thus; saḥ—that; mahātmā—great soul; su-durlabhaḥ—very rare to find.
“At the end of many births, the man of wisdom surrenders to Me, knowing 'Vasudeva is all.' Such a great soul is very rare.”
'Vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti' is one of the most celebrated lines of the Gītā. The realization that Vāsudeva—the all-pervading Lord—is the substance of absolutely everything, including oneself, marks the culmination of jñāna into prema. This is not a philosophical conclusion but a direct experience of unity that transforms every perception.
This verse gives both a map and a motivation. The map: realisation comes through many lifetimes of purification and inquiry. The motivation: this inquiry is the most worthwhile effort a human being can undertake. Wherever you are on this path, you are already on it—keep going.
