Multi-Tradition Commentary

Swami Gambhirananda (Advaita Vedanta)

This final verse of Chapter 6 is the culmination of the entire chapter and a pivotal bridge to the chapters on devotion that follow. Among all paths — hatha yoga, jnana yoga, karma yoga, kundalini yoga — the one who worships Krishna (the Supreme Self, Brahman) with the inner being fully absorbed in that Reality, with śraddhā (complete faith and trust), is declared the best yogi. Devotion (bhakti) is not a separate path from jnana and karma — it is the crowning synthesis that makes all paths complete. This is the supreme teaching of Chapter 6.

Practical Application (Modern Life)

Whatever form your spiritual practice takes — whether meditation, service, study, or prayer — bring love and faith into it. The quality of inner devotion that transforms technique into communion is what makes any practice supreme. A prayer offered with a loving, surrendered heart surpasses the most technically perfect practice done with a cold or calculating mind. Develop this loving quality of attention in everything you do.
