Multi-Tradition Commentary

Swami Sivananda

The responsibility of a leader or teacher increases exponentially because their choices become models for countless others. If even the Lord maintains the discipline of righteous action, how much more must ordinary human beings do so? This verse underscores that the spiritual path requires sustained, consistent effort — not sporadic inspiration — because the world watches and follows.

Practical Application (Modern Life)

Do not underestimate the invisible influence you carry in your roles as parent, colleague, teacher, or community member. The regularity and quality of your disciplined actions speak louder than any sermon. Resolve to maintain your core disciplines — in conduct, speech, and practice — especially when you feel no one is watching.
