karma brahmodbhavaṁ viddhi brahmākṣara-samudbhavam tasmāt sarva-gataṁ brahma nityaṁ yajñe pratiṣṭhitam
karma—work; brahma—from the Vedas; udbhavam—produced; viddhi—you should know; brahma—the Vedas; akṣara—from the imperishable (Brahman); samudbhavam—directly manifested; tasmāt—therefore; sarva-gatam—all-pervading; brahma—truth; nityam—eternally; yajñe—in sacrifice; pratiṣṭhitam—situated.
“Know that prescribed action (karma) arises from the Vedas, and the Vedas arise from the Imperishable (Brahman). Therefore, the all-pervading Brahman is eternally established in sacrifice.”
The hierarchy is: Brahman → Vedas → karma → yajna. This shows that the entire system of righteous action is rooted in the ultimate Reality. Performing yajna in the spirit of the Vedic teaching is therefore not merely social or moral activity but an act of alignment with Brahman itself. The wise see no difference between worshipping the Divine and fulfilling their duties with love.
When your work feels meaningless, recall that all genuine duty — when performed with awareness — is grounded in the infinite. Elevating the quality of attention you bring to work is a form of approaching Brahman. Dedicate at least one task each day to be performed with complete mindfulness, as if that action itself were a form of prayer.
