श्री भगवानुवाच | भूय एव महाबाहो शृणु मे परमं वचः | यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया || १ ||
śrī bhagavān uvāca bhūya eva mahā-bāho śṛṇu me paramaṁ vacaḥ yat te 'haṁ prīyamāṇāya vakṣyāmi hita-kāmyayā
śrī bhagavān uvāca—the Supreme Lord said; bhūyaḥ—again; eva—certainly; mahā-bāho—O mighty-armed one; śṛṇu—just hear; me—My; paramam—supreme; vacaḥ—instruction; yat—that which; te—to you; aham—I; prīyamāṇāya—thinking you dear to Me; vakṣyāmi—will speak; hita-kāmyayā—out of desire for your benefit.
“The Supreme Lord said: O mighty-armed Arjuna, listen once more to My supreme word, which I shall speak to you for your benefit, because you are dear to Me.”
Krishna begins this chapter by indicating that what follows is not merely information but a gift of love. The qualification 'prīyamāṇāya' (thinking you dear) shows that this knowledge flows from a relationship of love. Supreme knowledge cannot be transmitted in a vacuum; it requires the warmth of genuine care between teacher and student.
True teaching always flows from genuine care for the student's welfare, not from a desire to display knowledge. When we share wisdom with others, the intention behind the sharing matters as much as the content itself. Cultivate relationships where knowledge is exchanged with warmth and mutual respect.
